										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The project aimed to strengthen institutional arrangements and related capacities of Myanmar’s Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, sectoral agencies, local government institutions, CSOs, and communities in managing climate-related risks through improved understanding of climate risks in project locations, enhancing the formulation of weather/ climate forecast and related information, including information dissemination. The project contributes to reducing the increasing impacts of climate change on agricultural and livestock production cycles in Myanmar’s Dry Zone, under UNDP Adaptation Fund-supported project on “Addressing Climate Change Risks on Water Resources and Food Security in the Dry Zone of Myanmar”.  </p>
<p> Location: Myanmar  (Townships: Monywa, Shwebo, Myingyan, Nyaung U, Chauk)<br />
 Key activities included: analysis of available weather and climate information (trends, extremes, thresholds) for 5 townships, and available future climate change scenario for the Dry Zone; analysis of impacts on key sectors; assessment of existing weather/ climate/ early warning information flow from national to local level; user need assessments; adaptation of tools and methodologies for rapid vulnerability assessment at village tract level, and vulnerability/ risk assessment at township level; training of trainers on participatory vulnerability assessment for local government and CSO partners; rapid hazard/ vulnerability/ risk assessment in 136 village tracts, and vulnerability/ risk assessment in 5 townships in a multi-hazard framework, in collaboration with stakeholders; development of climate hazard, vulnerability, and risk maps for 5 townships in GIS platform, taking into account locally-specific socio-environmental conditions; development of customized climate information bulletins and guidance notes for application; development of operational procedures for communicating climate risk information to end users; development of guidelines for mock drill to test information flow from national to end users; national and regional level training on collection, analysis, and communication of climate risk information</p>

The assessment will help to generate baselines for DRR programming in pilot provinces. The project is part of Australia Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade-supported project on “Strengthening Disaster Risk Management in Papua New Guinea”, aimed at providing strategic support to the Government of Papua New Guinea in reducing vulnerability and increasing resilience to disasters.</p>
