Position Title: GIS Expert (India, Tamil Nadu)

Position Description:

The GIS Expert reporting to the Head System Development Team, is responsible for data mining, storage, analysis, visualization, and reporting that meets user needs.

Duty station:

In country (India, Tamil Nadu)

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographical Information System and Remote sensing and related field.
  • Working and strong knowledge of software tools such as (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS, Minitab, ArcGIS, and QGIS).
Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in Geographical Information System tool and remote sensing data processing and using web GIS tools such as GEE.
Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize work independently
  • Excellent communication skills

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • In collaboration with the DSS development team, identify user requirements and technical issues and design reports to meet users’ data analysis needs
  • Visualize data as spatial maps and statistical figures using GIS tools
  • Identify new data sources and methods for improving data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Supporting the development and management of GIS applications that are based on growing and improving business demands
  • Overseeing the planning and coordination of GIS activities to meet the outlined goals
  • Developing and managing control quality standards for system application
  • Performing data capture and analysis for GIS product
  • Overseeing data flow, management, and distribution activities that are aimed at supporting GIS
  • Supporting and participating in the designing and development of the geospatial database
  • Maintaining up-to-date and accurate geospatial documentation for reference purposes
  • Staying up to date or abreast with the latest developments in the GIS field
  • Giving support in the development of a work plan for complex projects
  • Efficiently managing geospatial databases and developing effective maps and aerial photography.
  • Carrying out hazard, vulnerability, and risk assessments for Tamil Nadu and different countries for Flood, earthquakes, tsunamis, drought, lightning, and other extreme events.
Reporting to:

The GIS Expert will report to Head- System Research and Development

Contract Duration:

The contract will initially be for one year and will be extended upon satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary term and each annual performance review.
